Dr. Mylene M. Uy

Dr. Mylene M. Uy, is a Professor of the Chemistry Department of the Mindanao State University-lligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT). She is currently the Dean of the College of Science and Mathematics and formerly the Director of the Center for Natural Products and Drug Discovery of the MSU-IIT Premier Research Institute of Science and Mathematics (PRISM), where she also served as its Executive Director from 2017 until June 2025. 

She obtained her Doctor of Science degree from Hiroshima University, Japan in 2005 as a Monbukagakusho Scholar, her MS Chemistry Degree at MSU-IIT as a DOST-ESEP Scholar and her B. S. Chemistry Degree at MSU-IIT graduating Magna Cumlaude and the Institute Valedictorian. 

Prof. Dr. Uy has been actively engaged in collaborative research activities in the field of bioorganic chemistry- natural products and has implemented more than 10 research programs or projects funded by NRCP, CHED, PITAHC and DOST. Her latest collaborative project is with the Universiti Teknologi Petronas which is MSU-IIT’s first co-funded international collaborative research project. She has authored/ co-authored more than eighty (90) international publications, mentored more than one hundred (100) undergraduate and graduate students, discovered fifteen new compounds so far and produced two patent applications. She is also active in community service in the fields of research mentorship, small-scale chemistry and chemical safety and security. She is a member of the CHED Technical Panel in Chemistry, and Auditor, Kapisanang Kimika ng Pilipinas. She is a recipient of a number of prestigious awards, notable of which are the 2015 National Research Council of the Philippines Achievement Award in the Field of Chemical Sciences; the 2016 Novartis Next Generation Scientist Program Fellow (the first and only one from Mindanao so far); the 2018 Philippine Federation of Chemical Societies, Inc. Shimadzu Award for Chemical Research; the DOST-PCHRD 2021 Best Mentor in Health Research Award Mindanao Cluster Winner for the Graduate Category; the Philippine Regulation Commission 2022 Outstanding Professional in the field of Chemistry; and one of the 2025 Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipinos.
